 Reflections By Dr. Richard Reed

   04-15-06

Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter are at the center of the Christian faith.  The events of these days reveals how God would answer the problem of sin in creation.  It is comforting to recall the words in John’s gospel, “God sent Jesus into the world not to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him (paraphrased).”  No one understood on the hills of Bethlehem the direction that Jesus life would take in the years ahead.  They couldn’t visualize just how the miracles, teachings, and the Spirit of God would be revealed in this messiah.

In our day we can look at this witness of the gospel and see the truth of God, “That in him was light, and this was the light of God and darkness would not overcome the light (paraphrased).”  Jesus not only lived for the gospel and died for the gospel, when he rose from the dead, he became the gospel.  I believe this is what Jesus wants of us, to become the gospel by living and dying in him, by letting the gospel become a living reality in our midst.

I pray that Easter is not just a one day event in your life, but a living reality of our living Lord.

He is Risen!
