 Reflections By Dr. Richard Reed

   October 28, 2005

Cool weather!  I love this time of year!

Don’t get me wrong, springtime is wonderful as the flowers bloom, the grass becomes green and there are new signs of life.  I enjoy the summertime warmth and outdoor activities and even the winter days have their beauty, but there is just something about fall weather that I enjoy the most.

I love to travel in the fall to the places in our country where the leaves are a multitude of colors, the air is crisp, and wind blows the leaves in swirling patterns.  I love drinking a hot cup of coffee in the cool, crisp mornings.  I love to smell the heady aroma of earth, leaves, and damp.

The fall season is a reminder that everything in life changes.  Just as the world slowly and deliberately moves from winter to spring, spring to summer, and summer to fall, so life changes.  Each season of the world has its purpose and without each season the world would not function in the way God created.

One blessing of God’s creative work is that every thing was created for a purpose.  One of the important promises in scripture is the purpose of God.  There are times when we aren’t always sure about what is happening in life, where we are headed, or where we will end up.  That is why God affirms a purpose in life that transcends our perception.  We can see signs of its movement and we can catch glimpses of the change, but we cannot see the entire movement of God’s work.

As a people of faith it is important to trust in God’s plan and work.  Although our lives and the world around may change, God’s steadfast love for us never changes.  Through the cycles of life God holds our lives.  Whatever may change, whatever may be different in our lives, whatever may happen, we can trust in God for God never changes.  Enjoy the fall!

Grace and Peace,

Richard
