“Goodness
and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…”
I
have always found that these familiar words from Psalm 23 provide a
special word of hope and
encouragement in my life.
During times of great joy and excitement, they provide the
affirmation that I am following in the ways and paths of God.
During times of questioning, they provide the assurance that
no matter how mystified I might be at the moment, God’s will shall
be accomplished.
During times when I feel pulled in different directions, each
seeming to be a viable option, and neither one providing any clear
solution, these words provide the hope that God’s direction will
prevail in the end.
As
the church prepares for the birth of our Savior, we are reminded
that God has a plan for the church and for God’s people.
The plan for Jesus was not only to the enter the world as the
Son of God but also to save the world.
After the death of Jesus and at a moment when the disciples
wondered what good could possibly take place, God demonstrated
something special and wonderful.
As the disciples pondered if they could achieve anything
close to what God had in mind for their lives the Holy Spirit was at
work.
In
our lives and in our church, God has a plan to be achieved.
It is a holy calling and work that requires the leading of
the Holy Spirit and following of God’s people.
We may not be exactly sure where God will take us, but we
know the assurance that God’s direction and will shall prevail.
I
keep each of you in my daily prayers that together, we may be
responsive to God’s direction and guidance.
Grace and Peace,
Richard
