Thanksgiving Day
marks observances across our nation and in virtually every
home. Families
have special traditions, foods and activities that begin as we
join in food and fellowship around the table, think of
Christmas shopping, and the myriad of activities that take
place during these final weeks of the year.
One observation I believe to be true during this time
of year is that our ability to give thanks is rarely maxed
out. Thankfulness
is more than remembering a few blessings, but is a state of
heart. When
thankfulness dwells in our hearts it changes our lives.
This Thanksgiving
Day I have many thanks to voice.
The past four months have been difficult for me as I
contended with being bedfast and awaiting surgery.
I have known for many years that there would come a
time when I would face spine surgery, but I was hoping it
wouldn’t be so soon.
I was blessed to know one of the best surgeons for the
procedures I needed and his God-given skill has certainly
blessed my life. Since
surgery my days have been filled with rehab and recovery.
Jeri has been such a blessing during this time and I
truly appreciate the many expressions of care and your
prayers. I can
now look toward returning to work and pulpit.
I have been
cleared to begin working in the office a couple of hours a
day, for two or three days a week, beginning in December.
I will increase my time in the office as my continued
recovery allows. I
am also looking forward to preaching on December 22nd
and 23rd! Even
though I am not cleared for our regular four services each
weekend, there is only one service that Saturday evening and
one on Sunday morning. During
the rest of December, we welcome Rev. Bob Weathers back to the
pulpit and on December 30th, Pastor Carlos and
Emily will be with us!
I look forward to
sharing and being with you again in worship and ministry.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Richard
