Family Ministries Committee Information

SERVICE AREA: Fellowship
COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON 2003: Angie Avery

"God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful"
1 Corinthians 1:9.

SERVICE TITLE:
Family Ministries Committee Member

PURPOSE:
The purpose is to ensure that our church family is given opportunities to fellowship with each other outside of church and small group meetings. This typically involves making arrangements for church family dinners and events.

DEFINITION OF DUTIES:
Church Family Dinners – A church family dinner typically occurs at Valentines and at Thanksgiving. During the summer, an ice cream social, church family picnic or swim party is typically arranged.
The tasks involved with a church family dinner are as follows:
A. The date of the event is coordinated with the church leaders.
B. Catering arrangements are made.
C. An announcement is written and placed in the church bulletin. Tickets are usually sold between Sunday services.
D. If the volunteers from the In His Steps campaign are not enough, then additional volunteers are recruited to help with ticket sales, set up, serving and clean up.
E. The church sanctuary or other room is reserved for the event.
F. Typically, the volunteer team helps to set up tables and chairs in the church sanctuary after the 11am service.
G. Volunteers serve the dinner. Occasionally, arrangements are made for entertainment to occur during the dinner.
H. Volunteers clean up the sanctuary after the dinner and return all table and chairs to their appropriate rooms.
Mother’s Day – Historically, flowers have been purchased and distributed to each mother at all four services.
Father’s Day – Last year, water guns were purchased for each father. These were distributed at all four services. Then, a father and child water gun fight was held one Sunday afternoon.
Easter Egg Hunt – Family Ministry gathers the food items for the lunch served at the Easter Egg Hunt. This is a community outreach event with about 600 children and adults served. Typically a hot dog lunch is served. Through donations, hot dogs, buns, chips, sodas, condiments, ice and ice cream are gathered. These items are delivered to the church and then the Easter Egg Hunt committee actually cooks and serves the luncheon.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong organizational and leadership skills are needed. Much hands on work is involved (shopping, setting up tables, serving food, cleaning up the sanctuary). Should be available to attend most family ministry events.

CONTACT PERSON:
Jennifer Hamilton- 817-465-4138 or jjhamilton@attbi.com

TIME COMMITMENT:
There is one fellowship event about every other month. With each event, about 4 hours of time is spent on the planning, coordinating and shopping.

TRAINING:
Training will consist of one on one time with Jennifer Hamilton or another family ministry team member of approximately 1 hour.

LENGTH OF COMMITMENT:
One year commitment.
