Food Ministry Service Information

SERVICE AREA: Fellowship

SERVICE TITLE:
Food Ministry

PURPOSE:
The purpose is to ensure that church families and members receive assistance with meals after a church member has spent at least one night in the hospital. Usually a home-prepared meal is delivered to the church member’s family. The overall purpose is to show Christian caring, love and support for the family.

DEFINITION OF DUTIES:
- The Food Ministry Team Leader maintains weekly contact with the church office in order to know which church families need assistance. Once the church office makes a request, the Team Leader contacts the family to assess details associated with the need.
- The Team Leader then calls a volunteer to see if they can provide a meal on a certain date.
- The volunteer then contacts the family and makes arrangements to deliver the meal.
- The volunteer prepares and delivers the meal on the date agreed upon.
- The Team Leader keeps record of volunteer assistance and works to coordinate the meal assignments so that requests are evenly distributed. On occasion, the Team Leader may need to recruit additional volunteer assistance when meal requests become high.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Team Leader must have strong organizational skills and leadership skills.
- Volunteers should have good communication skills and sensitivity to the family need. Confidentiality is also required.

TIME COMMITMENT:
Approximately one hour a week to coordinate the delivery of meals.

TRAINING:
Training will be a one on one explanation with Becky Spero for about one hour.

LENGTH OF COMMITMENT:
Minimum one (1) year commitment.
